Responsible Gaming
This is one of the most important pages on this website, created with
information from the Ruby Fortune website (in green), combined with my past
experiences. Make sure to read well and always keep in mind what is written
here. It will (and should) change the way you gamble. It may not help you to
win, but will definately help you prevent yourself from losing more than you
can afford.
1. Make sure that your decision to
game is your personal choice
Don't gamble for any other reason than your own entertainment: enjoy
the spinning of the wheels, the excitement of the games and the thrill of
large wins. Never play because you "have to".
2. Establish limits for depositing,
wagering and even losses before you commence gaming
and stick by them! Determine how much you can afford to lose, and
don't deposit more. Even when a slot appears to "just start to do
well", that's only what "it wants you to think", and even
more importantly: what you want to
believe. Set your maximum amount per spin/hand and make sure that even if
you were to lose all spins/hands, you still have played for a while (had
some fun). When your balance goes up a lot, say to yourself "I will not
let it drop below ...". When your balance reaches that point: withdraw!
Or play safe and withdraw that amount right away; you can always withdraw
again if your remaining balance gets you another big win.
A slot stretegy I read somewhere a while ago (I'm sorry, can't remember who
it was from; if you know, please tell me) stated the following (summarized):
1. Deposit a certain amount (say $50)
2. Determine your wager (say 0.90)
3. Devide your deposit by your wager (55.55)
4. Throw away everything after the . (55)
5. Spin that many times and not a single one more
6. Withdraw your balance and quit the casino
I myself found this strategy very helpful. What happens:
- You are counting your spins, making you more aware of what you are doing;
- If you win big, you don't get a chance to play it all away again;
- If you don't win, you'll have some funds left at the end of your session
(you always win something) to play with another time, so you won't need to
deposit again.
I have to admit though, that my point 6 became more like "Quit that
game and either quit the casino and come back later, or play another game
with the same strategy". Sometimes you have to, because of wagering
requirements.
3. Never game if:
* You are younger than the legal gaming age
* It interferes with your daily responsibilities
Always do what you know you have to do that day first! You can even
see gambling for a little while as a sort of "reward" (a moment to
relax), but only after you have finished what you had to do.
* You are in recovery for any dependency
* You are under the influence of alcohol or any other substance
* Attempting to make up for prior losses
Each bet you place or spin you play has the same odds of winning. You
will not win today because you lost yesterday. If you lost and can't
afford to lose more: stop playing. You either lose or win, but past results
say nothing about the results you'll have the next time.
* Your primary aim is to recoup your debt with your winnings
Odds say that playing when you are in debt will only get you deeper in debt.
Luck unfortunately isn't always with those who need it most.
If you or someone you know has a
gambling problem,
consider assistance from any one of these organizations:
· Gamblers Anonymous: http://www.gamblersanonymous.org
· National Council on Problem Gambling Helpline: 1-800-522-4700
· GamCare (UK Based) Helpline: 0845-6000-13
Remember: gambling should always remain fun. Casino payout tables show that
the best way to earn money from online casino's is by not playing. They
usually pay out around 99% of what comes in, but that includes huge jackpots
and progressives. So, odds say you'll lose. When you do lose, make sure that
you at least had fun while doing so.
Finally, just a few more words of advice:
What does it take to win a lot?
Just one thing: luck
What does it take to lose a lot?
Among many others: bad luck, greed, frustration, impatience, ignorance...
I cannot teach you how to win (wouldn't that be something...), but I can
help you become aware of your game play and control your losses.
For me, the keys to successfull gambling are:
- Knowing how much you can afford to lose
- Spreading risk (lots of smaller wagers instead of a few larger ones)
- Knowing when to quit
Of course I can't help you with the first point, but I will try my best to
help you with the other two on the rest of this website.
